For the Love of Tradition: Chapter 1

Today we launch a three-part blog series on wedding day traditions and the many ways you can interpret them during your big day at Silver Sycamore.

The first on our list is a time-honored tradition that nearly every bride knows by heart: “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe.”

Though a lot of brides-to-be aren’t dropping a sixpence in their shoe, many still observe the saying by incorporating heirloom items (like a mother’s hand-me-down ring or their grandmother’s handkerchief) for “something old.” A shiny new bracelet or your beautiful wedding dress can easily be the “something new.” Make your “something borrowed” a fun search with the help of parents and bridesmaids to find a special item the bride can wear on her wedding day, like a locket necklace with a family photo. To satisfy your “something blue,” wind a blue ribbon around your bouquet stems or don a pair of bright, blue shoes underneath your gown for a colorful surprise.
